It started with
my family.

I’m Colin, the creator of Glottie. My reason for learning a language was personal: I wanted to learn European Portuguese so I could teach my daughter and help make her mother’s language part of our everyday life.

Finding the right lessons was harder than I expected. I was looking for European Portuguese—the variety spoken in Portugal—and practice that would help me actually speak it with my family.

I wanted to be able to talk through the small moments: getting dressed in the morning, making breakfast, or asking about the day. Those ordinary conversations were the point of learning.

So I built the tutor I wanted to learn with.

Glottie grew out of that need. It’s a conversational AI language tutor built around speaking, with support for your starting language and practice shaped by what you want to do.

If you’re learning for your family, the conversation should reflect that. If you’re moving somewhere new or connecting with colleagues, your practice should make room for those goals too.

A personal beginning. More ways to connect.

European Portuguese is where this story began. Today, Glottie supports 33 languages and 1,050 language pairs. The idea remains personal: help people practise the conversations that matter in their own lives.

For me, that starts at home, with my wife and daughter.
