Privacy Policy

Glottie is an audio-first language learning app. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Information we collect

  • Launch waitlist information: your email address, the language you speak, the language you want to learn, waitlist status, and the time and version of your consent.
  • Website analytics: pages viewed, referring site, approximate country, browser and device category, and page-performance measurements. Glottie uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is designed not to collect or use visitors’ personal data.
  • Account information: sign-in identifiers, support language, target language, settings, subscription state, and app preferences.
  • Voice session information: live microphone audio, the words exchanged, session metadata and duration, tutor responses, corrections, learning objectives, and diagnostic events. Glottie does not retain raw lesson audio by default.
  • Learner model information: progress estimates, vocabulary and grammar mastery, recurring errors, goals, interests, practice history, and tutor memories you create through use of the app.
  • Payment information: App Store subscription and purchase receipts, entitlement status, minute balances, and ledger entries. We do not receive your full payment card details.
  • Device and diagnostic information: app version, device type, crash logs, performance diagnostics, and security signals such as rate-limiting or abuse-prevention events.

How we use information

  • To add you to the launch waitlist, send a welcome receipt, and send one announcement when Glottie becomes available on the App Store.
  • To understand basic website traffic, measure waitlist conversion, and improve page performance.
  • To provide spoken tutoring sessions and adapt them to your level, goals, and progress.
  • To remember what you are learning, schedule review, and generate post-session trace-logs.
  • To manage accounts, subscriptions, minute balances, receipts, support requests, and product communications.
  • To keep the app secure, prevent misuse, debug issues, and improve product quality.
  • To comply with legal, tax, accounting, App Store, and safety obligations.

Voice and AI processing

Glottie uses OpenAI speech and text models to provide the live conversation, generate learning feedback, and update your personalized learning plan. During a conversation, microphone audio travels directly from your device to OpenAI. Relevant conversation text, tutor responses, and learning context may also be processed after the session. OpenAI’s API data policy states that API data is not used to train its models unless the API customer opts in; Glottie does not opt session content into model training.

Before your first conversation, Glottie asks for explicit permission for this processing. You can withdraw that permission in Settings → Privacy & Account. Withdrawing it prevents new voice conversations because AI processing is necessary to deliver the tutor.

Service providers and sharing

We do not sell personal information and do not use it for cross-app advertising. We share only what is needed with service providers acting for Glottie:

  • OpenAI processes live audio and language-learning context.
  • Cloudflare hosts Glottie’s website, API, databases, queued work, stored learning artifacts, operational telemetry, waitlist records, bot protection, and waitlist email delivery.
  • Sentry processes privacy-limited crash, app-hang, release, device-class, and performance diagnostics. Glottie disables default personal information, IP retention, screenshots, view hierarchies, network breadcrumbs, and lesson-content logging in this integration.
  • Apple provides Sign in with Apple, App Store purchases, subscription management, and push notifications.
  • Selected support providers may receive limited technical information when needed to operate, secure, or troubleshoot the service.

We may also disclose information when required by law or when reasonably necessary to protect users, Glottie, or others.

Retention

Glottie keeps your account, learning profile, useful conversation records, progress, tutor memories, and transaction state while your account is active so the tutor can remember where you left off. Glottie does not retain raw lesson audio by default. Operational logs are retained for shorter periods appropriate to troubleshooting and security. When you delete your account, Glottie permanently removes account-linked data from its active systems, except information we must retain for a specific legal, tax, fraud-prevention, or dispute obligation.

Waitlist records are deleted within 90 days after the launch announcement unless you separately ask for ongoing updates. If you unsubscribe, we may retain only the minimum suppression record needed to honor that choice.

Your choices

  • You can leave the launch waitlist at any time using the unsubscribe link in either waitlist email, or by contacting privacy support.
  • You can permanently delete your Glottie account in Settings → Privacy & Account → Delete Account. You do not need to contact support.
  • You can request access, correction, or export of personal information by contacting privacy support.
  • You can manage subscriptions through your Apple account settings.
  • You can remove individual tutor memories in the app or withdraw AI-processing permission from Privacy & Account.
  • You can review additional choices on the Data choices page.

Children

Glottie is not directed to children under 13. A person under the age of majority where they live should use Glottie only with permission from a parent or legal guardian. If you believe a child has provided personal information improperly, contact us.

Security

We use technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information, including server-side authorization, short-lived session credentials, secure cloud infrastructure, and app-level abuse controls. No method of transmission or storage is perfect.

International users

Your information may be processed in the United States and other countries where we or our service providers operate. Those countries may have privacy laws different from your own.
