Learn Persian (Farsi): practise conversation as spoken in Iran

For a conversation with friends or family in Iran, learning to recognise a written sentence is one step. Understanding the form you hear in everyday speech and producing a reply is another. Give those skills separate attention from the start.

Choose Iranian Persian for your goal

Glottie's Persian target is Iranian Persian, often called Farsi. The regional label makes the intended practice clear. If your goal is a different Persian variety, do not assume that every pronunciation or everyday expression will be interchangeable.

Choose an initial situation you expect to use: a greeting, a simple errand, or making a plan. Explain the setting to your tutor so the conversation has a clear purpose. A short, complete exchange is a more manageable goal than trying to discuss every topic at once.

Connect written Persian with everyday speech

The University of Texas Persian resources treat the writing system and spoken-versus-formal variation as separate learning topics. That distinction matters when a familiar written form sounds different in conversation. Ask which form fits the setting instead of treating every difference as a mistake.

A useful practice sequence is to hear a short exchange, explain what you understood, then answer it aloud. If reading is also a goal, use a separate script reference alongside the audio. You can work on recognizing letters without making reading a prerequisite for every spoken attempt.

Build a reply you can vary

After practising a simple plan, change the day or destination and try again. After an introduction, add why you are learning Persian. These small changes reveal whether you can construct a reply beyond the example you just heard.

Glottie pairs Iranian Persian conversation with the support language you choose. For English support, select that pair after downloading the iPhone app and begin the spoken placement. The resulting path gives you a starting point for continued practice; it is not a promise of fluency within a fixed number of days.
